That could actually work really well! In Darkest Powers, werewolves are basically douchebags to a man, and are generally antagonists - the reason Derek isn't is because he's raised first by a lab and then by a man who adopts and cares for him. He never grows up with werewolves, but they're generally distrusted and seen as animals, and he has to deal with that a lot in the supernatural community - I think that if the lycanthropes are working for Gaea but Derek is like 'no i want to be good!!!' that would be a good way of carrying over that same suspicion and distrust that he experiences canonically?
