Aegir was said sometimes to be the god of the sea and sometimes to be a giant. He was known for throwing many great parties and feasts for the gods of Asgard. He can often be found brewing ale in a large pot. His wife is Ran, goddess of the sea.
Aegir's abilities include:- He owns a pot for brewing a magical ale for the gods.
- He is an excellent planner of parties and events.
- He can summon massive waves and sea-storms.
Balder, the Norse god of light and prophecy. Post Ragnarok Identity: Unknown
Balder was the best loved of all the Norse gods. He had the ability to create beauty and lived in a wonderful hall called Breidablik in Asgard. A prophecy was formed long ago about Balder's death by mistletoe and he was plagued by bad dreams for his life. Every object on earth except mistletoe must swear to not hurt Baldr.
Balder's abilities include:- He is invulnerable to attacks by any Norse god or mortal.
- He has the ability to transform into a pillar of blinding light.
- He has enhanced leadership qualities such as charisma and good public speaking skills.
- He has some clairvoyant abilities.
Bragi, the Norse god of poetry. Post Ragnarok Identity: Unknown
Although he is the god of poetry, Bragi is a very prideful man. Once, at a party with Loki, who offended the partygoers, he demanded that he would have Loki's head if they were not at one. He is incredibly well spoken and can be found alongside his wife Idunn.
Bragi's abilities include:- The ability to enchant the sound of his voice to attract mortals and gods.
- The ability to transform into a bird.
- The ability to sing well and play the lyre.
Brynhildr, Norse goddess and leader of the Valkyries. Post-Ragnarok Identity: Unknown
Brynhildr was a daring Valkyrie warrior who chose a king as her champion that Odin did not like. She was condemned to live as a mortal woman and sleep well-guarded (in a castle with tall walls on top of a mountain, she sleeps in a ring of fire) until someone came to rescue her. The great hero Sigurd proposed to her and gave her the magic ring Andavaranaut, which had the power to create gold. However, Sigurd had to leave on a long journey and she was propositioned by many men during this time, defeating almost all of them. He returned and killed the man who was attempting to take her as his wife, and then died shortly later. Brynhildr lit his body and jumped onto his funeral pyre. Sigurd was proclaimed as a great hero, and Brynhildr's status as leader of the Valkyries was restored.
Brynhildr's abilities include:- The ability to use any weapon she is given.
- Command over an army of Valkyrie soldiers.
- The ability to fly.
- A 'berserker' mode in battle.
- The ability to create a ring of fire.
Forseti, the Norse god of justice and reconciliation. Post-Ragnarok Identity: Unknown
Forseti is known as the best mediator of the gods - anyone who comes to his home, Glitnir, will leave feeling refreshed and absolved. He was often praised by seafarers that Forseti would speak to Aegir and Ran to calm the sea. He is the son of Baldur.
Forseti has these abilities:- The ability to glean the truth of all arguments.
- Forseti can lift up to thirty tons.
Freyja, the Norse goddess of love, beauty, gold, and war. Post-Ragnarok Identity: Unknown
Being the goddess of love and beauty, Freyja is fairest of all the Norse goddesses and has often been sought after as a wife by many giants and gods. She has vehemently denied them permission to marry her, however. She is very much in love with her husband Odr, who is often on adventures, and while he is away, she often cries tears of blood. Freyja has been known to be a bit greedy and will do anything to get some beautiful jewelry.
Freyja's abilities include:- Intense beauty.
- She can summon some Valkyries to fight with her.
- Incredible prowess in battle.
- The command over a jewel called Brisingamen - 'the jewel whose power cannot be resisted'. She can charm people with this.
- She can fly.
- She has the ability to shapeshift into a falcon. In this form, she may visit realms of the dead.
- She can form amber from her tears.
- She can ride and speak to her golden boar called Hildisvini.
Freyr, the Norse god of fertility, prosperity, and fair weather. Post-Ragnarok Identity: Unknown
Freyr is a kind, giving god who genuinely will do his best to help others. He once had a sword that could fight for him, but gave it away to someone to marry a giantess he loved. His sword was later used to kill him in Ragnarok.
Freyr's abilities include:- Control over the weather and storms.
- He can create clouds to fly in the air with.
- He can project his voice over great distances to send curses/storms.
- He has some telekinetic abilities.
Frigg, the Norse goddess of women and wife of Odin. Post-Ragnarok Identity: Mary Stuart
Frigga is an incredibly protective mother goddess who will do anything to save her sons, up to and including making all creatures in the Nine Realms swear to never hurt her son Baldur, who she had prophetic dreams about. She has many connections to Freyja and is often seen with her - leading some to believe they may be the same goddess.
Frigg's abilities include:- The ability to weave clouds.
- The ability to communicate with any sentient creature.
- The ability to do shielding magic.
Heimdallr, the Norse god who watches the Bifrost. Post Ragnarok Identity: Unknown
Heimdallr was always known as a stern god, but that's to be expected, as he is the strong watchman of the gods with golden teeth and a never-ending gaze. He does not take jokes lightly and finds great worth in working at his post. At Ragnarok, he was the one who blew the horn to signal that the end was near. Heimdallr was known for going to Midgard occasionally and fathering children with mortals.
Heimdallr's abilities include:- Heightened senses. He can see miles in front of him and hear near-silent sounds.
- The ability to go for long periods of time (think days) without food, drink, or sleep.
- The ability to transform into a seal.
- Prowess with his unbreakable sword, Hofung.
Hel, the Norse goddess of the dead and Queen of Hel. Post Ragnarok Identity: Unknown
Hel generally has a gloomy, downtrodden appearance. She can be a fierce woman as judge of the dead, but tends to feel that people misjudge her often, as she didn't choose to be the ruler of the world of the dead - Odin banished her there due to her parentage. She is a daughter of Loki.
Hel's abilities include:- The ability to kill mortals and monsters with a touch.
- The ability to revive recently deceased gods.
- She can levitate.
- She can cast illusions.
- Hel has the power of astral projection.
- Hel has a large hellhound called Garm who guards the entrance to the world of the dead.
Idunn, the Norse goddess of youth. Post Ragnarok Identity: Unknown
As the goddess of youth, Idunn has been known to be a little naive - she proved this when Loki lured her out of Asgard and into a wood, telling her he had some new apples to show her. Once there, she was taken to Jotunheim and stolen. She's forgotten a lot by most of the gods until they realize they're aging and call on Idunn a lot - this doesn't aggravate her, but it tends to get old.
Idunn's abilities include:- The ability to manifest golden apples of youth.
- Generation of nectar, mead, and ambrosia.
Loki, the Norse god of mischief. Post-Ragnarok Identity: Artemis Fowl
Loki is one of the most well-known of the Norse gods as a trickster and a prankster, someone to cause chaos. Oftentimes, he enjoyed playing jokes on and smack-talking other gods, which caused them to punish him by having the Midgard-Serpent drip poison into his eyes until Ragnarok. However, he was incredibly clever. There were many occasions where the gods had to call upon Loki to devise a crazy scheme to get them out of their predicaments.
Loki's abilities include:- Shapeshifting, particularly into animals.
- Heightened wit and planning skills.
- The ability to move around in almost near-silence.
- A form of charmspeak allowing him to lie well.
- Command over monsters and giants.
- Some magical ability.
Odin, the all-father and Norse god of wisdom and magic. Post-Ragnarok Identity: Rhys Owens
Odin is a stern, responsible god who values wisdom over all other qualities. He has ultimate knowledge, which he gained from drinking from a sacred well and losing one of his eyes. He often visits the Volga witch that lives in a cave on Midgard for prophecy. He seeks to understand runes, and once hung himself by his own spear from Yggdrasil in order to understand them. He has incredible power and cunning skills, and has been known to pose as a man on Midgard to understand things better. At Ragnarok, he was killed by the wolf Fenrir.
Odin's abilities include:- Precognition due to the sacrifice of one of his eyes.
- Ability to read magical runes.
- Odin is the wisest of all gods.
- He has a spear that can hit any target and never break.
- He is an excellent poet.
- He is followed by two ravens, Huginn and Muninn, who give him updates on the world's events.
- Odin has the power to grant a 'berserker' mode in people where they fear nothing and feel no pain in battle.
- He can ride an eight legged horse called Sleipnir. Sleipnir was one of Loki's sons and was given to Odin by the trickster.
- He has command over an army of Valkyrie warriors.
Ran, the Norse goddess of the sea. Post-Ragnarok Identity: Unknown
Ran was a goddess married to Aegir, god of the sea. She gave birth to nine nymph-like daughters, each who had control of different types of waves. Ran was known for having a net that could capture men that ventured into the sea. She has been known to be a dangerous goddess, as some of her aspects represent a more wrathful sea than Aegir's calm sea.
Ran's abilities include:- The posession of a magical fishing net.
- The ability to summon angry sea-spirits and waves.
- She can create small hurricanes.
Saga, the Norse goddess of recorded history. Post-Ragnarok Identity: Unknown
Saga was a prophetess who was charged with writing down and recording thoughts of the gods as well as the goings-on of Asgard. She was a drinking buddy of Odin, who he visited daily, and he felt that he could converse most freely with Saga. She lived in a swamp somewhere in Asgard called Sokkvabekkr.
Saga's abilities include:- The abilitiy to tap into a conversation wherever a story is being recounted to another.
- The ability to imbibe copious amounts of alcohol and still be coherent enough to write.
- Excellent handwriting.
- Saga has very strong muscles that she does not have to tend to often. It is difficult to injure her.
- Saga has some degree of prophecy.
Sif, the Norse goddess of the earth and wife of Thor. Post-Ragnarok Identity: Unknown
Sif, like her husband, is a valiant warrior in her own right, though she doesn't show it unless she absolutely needs to. She's known as one of the loveliest women in all of Asgard with hair of gold. (No, really. Her hair's actually made of gold, but don't tell her that 'she has a nice weave'. She gets offended when someone points out it wasn't her real hair originally.) She was born of a rowan plant that Thor clung to for dear life once.
Sif's abilities include:- Beauty beyond compare.
- The ability to fertilize plants/make plants grow with her mind.
- Sif is an expert shieldmaiden.
- Sif can assume the form of a swan.
- Sif has the gift of prophecy.
Sigyn, a Norse goddess. Wife and protector of Loki. Post-Ragnarok Identity: Unknown
Sigyn is an incredibly selfless and devoted goddess. She is the wife of Loki and is always by his side as his healer and protector, especially when he is punished by having the venom of the Midgard Serpent drip venom into his eyes. She holds a bowl over his head to collect the venom so that it would not hurt him so much, and soothes him with his healing touch. Despite how much Loki tricks and plays horrible jokes on people, Sigyn is an apologist and continually insists that he is only 'misunderstood'.
Sigyn's abilities include:- The ability to cast shielding magic.
- Invulnerability to venoms and poisons.
- The ability to heal with a single touch.
- Sigyn can calm nerves with a touch.
Skadi, the Norse goddess of the hunt and the winter. Post-Ragnarok Identity: Allison Argent
Skadi is a daughter of a giant and is married to Njordr. She is a playful-hearted goddess and enjoys taking part in battles of wit and challenges, particularly with Loki, almost as much as she enjoys hunting. She's often one to think up the punishment for the loser of a match - she was in fact the one who decided venom would be dripped into Loki's eyes for losing the flyting match. She seems to have something of a foot fetish. Although she is playful, it's difficult to get Skadi to laugh whole-heartedly. The only person who managed to do so was Loki, by tying the beard of a goat to his testicles and letting it drag him around.
Skadi's abilities include:- The ability to conjure snowstorms.
- The ability to summon winds.
- Clairvoyance.
- Prowess with a bow and arrow.
- She is an excellent skier.
Thor, the Norse god of strength and lightning. Post-Ragnarok Identity: Eiji Hino
Thor is the strongest of all the gods, and he really, really wants to make sure you know that. Do not challenge Thor to a fight, because he will kill you and then kill your dead body just to cover all his bases. He may seem a little dim-witted at times, but it's because once he's focused on something, his brain refuses to think about anything else until he's achieved his goal. He enjoys going on adventures on a regular basis, preferably with Loki, as his cunning has gotten Thor out of many situations, and his super-fast servant and friend Thialfi.
Thor's abilities include:- Thor is the strongest of all Norse gods.
- Thor is incredibly skilled in hand to hand combat as well as weapons.
- Thor has the ability to go into a 'berserker' mode in battle.
- Thor can conjure lightning and thunder.
- Thor fights with a hammer called Mjolnir.
Tyr, the Norse god of law and heroic glory. Post-Ragnarok Identity: Unknown
Tyr is a stern-faced god who is incredibly concerned with the law and justice. He strives to find the right way in a situation and is often trusted to deal with sticky situations. He was once trusted to chain and hold back the great wolf Fenrir, son of Loki. In the ordeal, he lost one of his hands to the wolf. He is known as the second strongest god, only weaker than Thor. In Ragnarok, he was killed by Garm, the guard dog of Hel.
Tyr's abilities include:- The ability to see all standpoints of an argument.
- The ability to clear someone's mind of racing thoughts.
- Extreme prowess in battle. After Odin and Thor, he is the strongest of all the Norse gods.
- If Tyr cuts off his hand, he may channel destructive energy through it.
